In the Bible Genesis 32:22–32 we read that Jacob is left alone and wrestles with an angel until daybreak. Jacob’s wrestling with an angel is a symbol of any great inner struggle that leads to transformation. God made Jacob limp after a wrestling match at the Jabbok River, which served as a physical reminder of his struggle with God and the need to rely on Him, not his own strength, to receive blessings; essentially, the limp symbolized Jacob’s surrender to God’s power and his transformation from a deceitful man to a man of faith.
Jacob named the place where he wrestled with the angel “Penuel,” meaning “face of God,” because he said, “I have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been spared.”
This verse holds deep meaning for anyone struggling with a physical battle. We must surrender ourselves to God’s power and plan to let Him transform us from inside out.
We look forward to building this Project Penuel community together through the grace of God and support of our entire community to help one another. ✝️
